As an Instrumentation Scientist and Engineer you are responsible for leading development of new technologies and next generation products, maintaining and supporting current products, and driving continual improvement activities to deliver pragmatic solutions and streamlined processes in a lab and manufacturing environment. To be effective in your role, you will:
- Possess technical expertise in hands on troubleshooting and testing, as well as competence in at least two of three areas: electronic, mechanical and/or optical systems;
- Navigate to different and better solutions using results-oriented approach to resolving complex and evolving problems;
- Sustain professional growth in organizing and executing product development activities from initial concept through full product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, leveraging a more scientific orientation, contributing in areas that do not fit nicely into the classic engineering disciplines, drawing on scientific expertise in physics, chemistry, materials science and mathematics.
- Lead system integration activities during product design and V&V phases.
- Drive product design and engineering in areas that do not fit nicely into the classic engineering disciplines, drawing on scientific expertise in physics, chemistry, materials science and mathematics.
- Explore promising new technologies and product concepts that are relevant to our business and identify opportunities to leverage new technologies to enhance our products.
- Partner with product marketing and application colleagues in understanding customer needs, leading to product concepts that can meet those needs, and strengthen our competitive advantage.
- Assist colleagues is troubleshooting or solving challenging product and/or engineering problems.
- Prepare and deliver reports and presentations sharing new information with others.
Core Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Masters or PhD).
- Experience with the control of optical measurement setups, for example experience with automatization, control, and interfacing with hardware.
- Ability to assess complex scientific and engineering problems, define a problem-solving approach, and work to practical solutions.
- Proficiencies for modelling, data acquisition and analysis.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- High level of personal initiative with the ability to work with limited supervision.
Desired Qualifications
- Ph.D. in optics, applied physics, or equivalent discipline.
- 5+ years in commercial instrumentation design and development.
- Good knowledge of optical materials, production techniques of optical components, and opto-mechanical concepts.
- Confidence, willingness, and ability to sell ideas to the organization and take a leadership role in their implementation.
- Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects and priorities.
